Cuddles!
As I am new to Tumblr, and this is my first post, I thought it would be appropriate to make this about a parrot’s forms of affection.
For one, yes, most large birds are pretty much your avian housecats or lapdogs. They love attention and soak it up like sponges, and they adore a good ol’ cuddle time.
A bird will show contentedness by fluffing his feathers (but don’t let this be confused with raising feathers for defense in attempt to look big, nor for an ill parrot. If your bird stays a feathered pinecone for an extended period of time, go for your avian vet.) and in some cases, like a cat, pushing their head against your hand or giving you a certain place to pet them.
Some parrots, like macaws, also will produce a purring noise similar to a cat’s (yeah, okay, birds are friggin’ winged house-cats.) when they are content. Though sometimes perceived as a growl, don’t be alarmed if you hear it. These purrgrowls are good things!
